Projects and Activities

Our Optimist club participates in a variety of projects throughout the year that involve fundraising, community service, and assisting children locally here in Hamilton.  We engage in a number of social activities to share experiences, talents and our collective interests. All represent great opportunities for service, friendships and personal growth. Below are the projects and activities we do annually:

Summer Weekly Car Show at Hutch's on the Beach

Each summer, on Monday nights from June to September,  we run a Car Show at the Hamilton landmark Hutch's on the Beach. There is no admission fee. Cars start parking anytime after 5:00 P.M. to dusk. We will be selling tickets each Monday for a 50/50 draw. It's a fun evening for everyone. See you there!

Respect for Law

One of the programs run by many Optimist Clubs is an annual Respect for Law event. The Optimist Club of East Hamilton honours law enforcement officers that have contributed to respecting law in our community. These officers are role models for the youth of our community. We believe it is important that the youth of our community develop a strong belief in abiding by the law, respecting law enforcement and doing all that can be done in maintaining a lawful environment. This year's recipients represent our community's role models. This year's winner is Hamilton Police Chief Glenn De Caire. The photo below shows Optimist President Jim Wilkins presenting the plaque to Hamilton Police Chief Glenn De Caire on May 5, 2015.

Central Ontario Leadership Seminars (COLS)

Every year we sponsor a group of Grade 10 students to attend a weekend long Central Ontario Leadership Seminars (COLS) event at the University of Toronto, Mississauga Campus. It is a life changing event for the participants. Please read more about it at this link to our page dedicated to COLS.

Annual Christmas Books for Kids

Every Christmas we deliver books to children at Glenwood School, a special needs school here in Hamilton. On On Dec. 16, some of our members and friends went to Glenwood School, to present the students with books which our club purchased as Christmas gifts for each of them.

Christmas Tree Sales

Every Christmas, the East Hamilton Optimist Club sells Christmas Trees at the Canadian Tire at the Centre on Barton Street. We open in mid November and all money raised goes to support our projects for youth. We have a tree for every satisfied customer!
